I’ve heard several people, mostly film critics, say that they can’t stand Keanu Reeves. I’ve heard that The Matrix was a great movie concept except for the fact they cast Keanu in the main role. Well, I don’t get why there’s all these bad vibes sent his way. Maybe it’s due to him being type cast from his role in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.? I think he’s a terrific actor in that movie, as well as all the others I’ve seen him in. In fact, I would place him in my top 10 favorite actors/actresses of all time. I’m not gonna apologize for it either. Call me crazy, call me shallow, I don’t care. If I had the choice between watching a Keanu movie or a Cary Grant movie I’ll pick good ol’ Mr. Reeves any day.
Earlier today I watched Hardball. I’ll tell ya, I love that movie. Don’t lecture me about how it’s just another one of those “poor black kids find their white savior in the hood” movies either. That’s an inspiring movie! It made me cry too when Keanu realizes that he means the world to those kids and those kids mean the world to him. Maybe it’s because I work with kids, I don’t know, but that film moves me.
So let’s all “stop the hatin’” to quote a student in my youth group. Give Keanu the respect he deserves.
