If you haven’t heard, Google has begun increased service to China.? China, as you know, is basically a closed country to anything foreign.? Closed especially, it seems, to “sensitive material.”? Now, what this “sensitive material” is I can’t be sure but Google has gone to lenths to filter out this material in order to secure a stronger presence in China.? China wouldn’t let Google into the country unless it agreed to filter some of its search results. (link to one of Google’s official statements.)
There has been quite an uprising against Google’s decision.? Some people are even boycotting them and refusing to use any of their services; that was a repetatively redundant statement, wasn’t it?? I’m not sure yet where I stand on this issue.? On the one hand I don’t agree with Google on their choice here.? On the other hand, I LOVE Gmail!? What to y’all think?? Should we be boycotting Google because of their decision or should we use our Gmail accounts to send them email telling them how bad their decision was?
