How to Stunt Your Spiritual Growth

I’m no genius, but it seems to me that while there are hundreds of resources you could consult about how to improve your spiritual growth there are precious few which outline how you can actually stunt your spiritual growth. If you’re looking for some sure-fire methods to keep yourself from growing spiritually then you’ll be pleased that I’ve put together a short list of thing you can do to accomplish your goals.

  1. Stop reading the Bible. It seems like a stupid point, but ask yourself how many times you’ve actually sat down with God’s word and simply read it? The Bible is God’s principle means by which He communicates to us. Ouch. That one stings, doesn’t it?
  2. Cease regularly attending church. Church isn’t just about paying a few bucks to listen to someone preach. Personally I’ve found that the biggest benefit I get out of church is fellowship with other Christians. If you don’t go to church you’ll spiritually whither.
  3. Stop praying. If you don’t talk to God, you won’t grow. It’s as simple as that.
  4. Hang out with the wrong crowd. The old phrase, “Bad company corrupts good morals” is supremely true…especially for teens. I’ve found something to be true 99% of the time: if I want to know what kind of a person someone is all I have to do is look at the kind of people they hang around because they will typically hang out with people who they most want to be like…or who they already are like.
