Update Your Feed Reader

feed iconA note to all those who are subscribed to my feed: the feed address has changed. Please double check and update your feed reader to use this feed for Open Switch: http://openswitch.org/feed.

I previously was using the excellent services of Feedburner to handle Open Switch’s feed. The main reason I used their services was that when a person clicked on my feed icon, instead of seeing a page full of indecipherable XML code they would see a nice, friendly, feedburner page giving them several options by which they could subscribe to my feed. However, now with the introduction of Firefox2 and Internet Explorer7 this feature of Feedburner is no longer necessary. It seems that the trend is for browsers to no longer simply display unstyled XML that is the feed but instead they format it and give you several options for subscription.

The secondary reason I was using Feedburner was to keep track of how many people were subscribing to Open Switch.

Granted, there are many more features (powerful features) available to paying Feedburner users. But I’ve never found the need for any of those paid features. Really I just wanted to keep track of how many people are subscribed to my blog and give them something pretty to look at; and that’s something that Mint and modern browsers are taking care of.

So, in the interest of keeping Open Switch as self-contained as possible I’ve opted to simply offer up my standard WordPress feed alone. If you’re currently subscribing to the feedburner address to keep up with things around here you should know that while there is a 30 day redirection in progress, after 30 days the Feedburner address will no longer work. Do make sure to change over to openswitch.org/feed whenever you get a chance.
