Finally, the time has come. I’ve been looking high and low for a stable, easy to install, usable and good looking dock for ubuntu. My search has ended (for the time being) with AWN. Time for a screen shot.
It’s the best thing since sliced bread. The problem with all the other docks out there currently for ubuntu is that they’re mere application launchers. They don’t hold your minimized windows. But now, with AWN your dock can do all that.
Adding launchers to the dock is click and drag. When you open an app that’s not in the dock already, it extends the dock and separates the new app from the others. You can see what I mean, albeit in a smaller form, in the above screen shot. All animations are smooth, it’s fully ‘composite’ which means it’s slick as snot and looks like a million bucks.
I can’t contain my excitement. Great great great application. Oh, and here’s the best part … ready? It installs via synaptic and is included in automatic updates too. It’s currently available for Edgy and Feisty.
If you’re like me, and find a app/launcher dock to be exceedingly useful then you absolutely need to check this out. It’s the bees knees.

That looks simply stunning. There is a similar thing in XP called Stardock but it has lots of annoying issues. I did experiment with several bits like this in Ubuntu but found them to be resource hogs or very rough around the edges. That looks simply wonderful - I will give it a go
Looks awesome, i\’ve tried Kiba-Dock but was having a few problems with it. I\’ll give this a go tonight.
For XP/Vista I use RocketDock.. its perfect, and free, I wish they had a gnome version…
On XP I\’ve never tried Rocket Dock. The last time I tried a dock with XP was about 2 years ago
. At that time StarDock was the way to go.

Where did the download go? I just saw it yesterday.
I am using the dock now, it’s similar to RocketDock. What dock do they use with gOS? That one looks very special, better then anything I’ve seen in either Ubuntu or Vista.
I’m not sure what dock comes with gOS. You’re right though, it certainly looks good.
I would use this if I were able to move the dock to other edges of the screen besides the bottom.
If you’re after a very cool dock, for XP or Vista, i use and recommend Rocket Dock from Punk Software… http://www.rocketdock.com/ It has heaps of skins, (there is even one that looks like the one above)Doesnt use up resources.. just move your WIN bar to the top and move the Dock to the bottom.. Vaiola! All done..
