Being a youth minister can be a very rewarding vocation. It can also be the major factor in a psychotic episode. Taking an idea from The Graphic Truth I’ve drawn up this simple line graph regarding youth ministry.

Everything in the graph fits me well except pizza and body mass.
I don’t gain weight no matter how much I eat
I think in my case the love for lock-ins was a lot faster of a descent! other than that you are right on for me as well…
@Tony: I hate you. I’ve gained about 80 lbs since starting ministry. Then again, that also coincided with getting married … hmmmmm.
@pdono: I hear ya. I actually liked lock-ins for the first whole year. Now I hate them … but still do them.
Love the graph. Perhaps you guys could try a lock-out? Potentially could be more Jesus-like than a lock-in (designed more to keep kids out of trouble, whereas Jesus was constantly getting himself and his disciples IN trouble
A lock out wouldn’t solve the problem. The problem with a lock-in is the fact that you don’t sleep. A lock out would be no better.
Great stuff. I believe there is a special place in heaven reserved for Youth Ministers. Something to look forward to.
I am by no means a YM veteran, but this is still hilarious.
LOL Ben –
It might have something to do with me being 25 years old. I am pretty sure after 30 + some marriage, it’ll be a different ball game.
If your BMI grows at the same rate as your pizza consumption, your problem isn’t just the pizza :p
Too right
. Good thing this isn’t a technical graph.
